"Hearts Don't Lie" Homicide, Arson and Implanted Medical Devices.

During the fall of 2016, Investigators and detectives with the Middletown Division of Fire conducted three (3) investigations in which data from implanted cardiac devices (ICD's) were utilized. This presentation will discuss the extensive work performed on the individual investigations as well as the process of obtaining data from the ICD's and how this data was utilized during the investigations.

This programs presenter, Mr. Jeff Spaulding has over 32 years of fire service experience and is currently a Deputy Chief with the City of Middletown, OH Division of Fire. He has conducted or supervised over 3000 fire an explosion investigations and provided expert witness testimony in federal and state courts. He has been a content author for several additions, The Jones and Bartlett's textbook Fire Investigator: Principles and Practices and was a peer-reviewer for Kirk's Fire Investigation 6th Edition. Additionally, Mr. Spaulding is a fire investigator and training coordinator for Fire and Explosion Consultants, LLC and holds a certificate as a commercial unmanned aerial systems (drone) pilot.
